19th Century Mutant Beach This vintage post card might just actually show what the Mutant Beach area looked like around the turn of the 20th century (though we believe this image was taken slightly upstream). Without any type of environmental agencies, we are sure that all of the pollution from the petroleum industry wrecked havoc on the ecosystem of the West Branch of the Tuna Creek. This surely was the precursor to the modern day Mutant Beach. Also note that extensive logging had decimated the hills in the area. This most certainly would have led to increased runoff and soil erosion thus raising the silt and sediment levels in the creek.
