More on the Origins

Summer 2006

The term Mutant Beach comes from back in the late 60's early 70's when a bright orange sludge oozed from the drain holes in the sides of the concrete slabs.  Iif you looked very closely you could see every color of the rainbow in the sludge (I assume mine runoff). When I was a kid at Hobson Place, the art teacher would take our class to the spillway and catch fish that we would dip in paint and press onto paper. I've been a fisherman all my life and still cannot name some of the species of fish that came out of there. So I assume that the sludge has something to do with the fish mutations.

Another reason for the mutation is that the city would dump all the snow (chemicals, garbage, road salt etc.) that they cleaned off the road during the winter on whatever road that is going by the beach. Back in the day it was not paved and no one used it in winter. I remember we would look for money and pop bottles as the snow melted.

AWESOME SITE!!!!!! Brings back tons of memories.
