Browntown Chronicles: Don't Burn the Bridge or You Could Die!

This is a submission received December 29, 2007 via Mutant Mail from an astute reader:

Was looking at the photos of the vandalism to at the Browntown swimming hole bridge – and found it extremely distressing… I assume the bridge deck was constructed of treated lumber. Treated lumber contains arsenic which is released in the smoke when burned.  Even intermittent exposure to such arsenic containing smoke can result in liver failure. Please post a warning on your site, and maybe suggest to Tuna Valley Assn that they post warnings on their projects. It’s annoying to see such vandalism, but would be tragic if some Bradford kids were crippled for life for doing something stupid.

Thanks

Dennis S.

[THANK YOU DENNIS!  I don't know how we overlooked that critical aspect but he brings up a good point.  You could die or be seriously injured from burning treated wood!  DON'T DO IT! Furthermore, using treated wood over a creek isn't an environmentally friendly idea either.  Perhaps there are better alternatives, like composite wood, bricks, etc].
