The Big Rocks of Bradford This is a submission received November 11, 2007 from a former Bradfordian, SML. How about a section on "Big Rocks" up off High Street - Rutherford Run? On some weekends in the summer there would be a dozen or more kids camped up there, everyone drinking like fish underage (the drinking age was 18 in NY, but 12 in Bradford). The trip up the impassable trails was so arduous it was like a trip to the "lost horizon", but when you got up there is was very magical. Aside from rocks as big as the Bradford Hospital the one-lunger pressure plant engines up there were still running and a few of the old oil wells were still driven by huge metal rods snaking along the forest floor and were also going strong. Lots of those engines had HUGE flywheels and were
built at B&S Foundry down in the city. SML Many Bradfordians are quite familiar with the numerous big rocks in the area that were left here courtesy of the last glacier. If you have any pictures to share please send them.

ATTENTION HUNTERS: If you hunt near any of the big rocks in this area please take your trusty digital camera with you and get us some photographs! ©2007 MBPS |
